Matthew Henry Daily Devotional Bible - A Review

I love the Bible.

Enjoying a cup of coffee with a Bible on my lap and highlighter in hand is at the top of my favorite things to do list.

So imagine the smile on my face when biblegateway.com reached out and asked if I’d consider reviewing this beautiful new devotional Bible. Yes please!

When I received my free copy in the mail in exchange for my honest review, I instantly fell in love with the cover. It’s available in both soft and hard cover options, so it’s perfect for any budget.

The Matthew Henry Daily Devotional Bible Cover

I spend a lot of time studying the Bible, both for fun and for my work as an author and freelance writer. The Matthew Henry Commentary has always been a trusted resource. I have access to it through the biblegateway.com subscription. Honestly, Henry’s writing is so deep I sometimes have to read it slowly (and more than once) to take it all in! But it’s something I turn to again and again if there is a passage or verse I’m having a hard time understanding.

The Matthew Henry Daily Devotional Bible takes the solid teaching from the original Matthew Henry Commentary and breaks it into manageable segments related to a specific verse. Each devotion is only a few paragraphs long, giving the reader more time to ponder Henry’s words and be inspired by his insight into Scripture.

What Is a Devotional Bible?

Thumb through the pages of most Bibles today and you’ll find extra features to help you study God’s word. But the idea of a daily devotional Bible intrigued me, because it combines two wonderful things— God’s Word and short, daily devotions.

The Matthew Henry Daily Devotional Bible does this seamlessly. Not only is there a convenient list of devotions by date with the corresponding page number, but it also includes this handy feature: each day’s devotion has a note pointing to where the next day’s reading can be found. Brilliant!

Features of the Matthew Henry Daily Devotional Bible

This book goes above and beyond by pairing 366 days of devotions with the complete New King James version of the Bible. They even placed the devotion with related daily verse on the exact page where the verse can be found, so readers can appreciate the verse in its context.

But probably the best feature in my opinion are the two different colored ribbons for page marking. One can be used for the daily reading, and the other for whatever Bible passage I happen to be studying.

This is quickly becoming my new favorite Bible— one I’ll enjoy again and again. I’ll be grabbing a copy as a gift to give, as well.
