Why Cancer Will Never Win
(A repost from June, 2014.)
Joining up with beautiful writers today at the #livefree Thursday link up with Suzie Eller. My God's Word be your strong anchor in times of trouble.
“He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth. The LORD has spoken.” Isaiah 25:8 NIV
How can the God of the universe care so completely about our every need? Have you ever asked yourself this question? The answer came to me recently while on a short, family journey down country roads through small towns and open farm land.
The drive from our home to visit our friend Paul in Quinlan, TX exists as visual evidence of God’s majestic creation. We’ve all captured those moments at one time or another. Moments when we gain a glimpse of the land’s far-reaching beauty. Whether wildflowers in pastureland or waves crashing on sandy shores. When those moments present themselves, I am left speechless.
Ending the drive and stepping across the wooden threshold leading into our friend’s country home, I realized the wonder God creates in the universe is only a fraction of who He is.
You see, our dear friend was concluding his time here with us and anticipating the day in the near future when he would look fully upon Jesus’ face.
So, how can the God of the universe care so completely about our every need? Simple.
God creates the vast spaces and inhabits our intimate places.
He is everywhere.
He is with everyone.
He is everything.
God can sprinkle thousands of wildflowers across an open field while gently lifting Paul’s frail hands as he held his Bible. God can add thousands of new leaves to the trees while speaking peace into that very room where Paul whispered those precious yet strained words, “Did you bring a message with you, Brother Phil?”
Yes, he wanted to hear the Word.
Paul was more than a friend to us. Much more. He was a pastor, teacher, confidant, co-laborer, and encourager. He stood by my husband’s side through times of rejoicing and times of despair. Though cancer crept in threatening to steal our hope, we can rest assured that it will never win. We have a promise that remains. Steadfast. Forever.
God made sure of it.
And because of that promise, we will not be forced to say good-bye. We will see our dear friend again – one day very soon. Love you, Brother Paul!
Simply Scripture:
“But anyone who obeys God's laws and teaches them will be great in the Kingdom of Heaven.” Matt 5:19b NLT
